Sweet Treats!

Every now & then I get a craving for a little something sweet!
Raw desserts are one way people become interested in the world of raw foods. They're really simple to prepare, usually just mixing & blending a few ingredients together. I'm a big fan of looking around the kitchen to see what I've got, deciding what I'm in the mood for, then just  making whatever strikes my fancy. Intuitive eating & preparing is something that kind of  evolved along the way for me. I stopped relying on recipes except for a little guidance now & then. I throw a pinch of this or a handful of that, tasting along the way. I've never been disappointed with anything that I've come up with!
This is such a beautiful thing about raw foods, not just desserts!  As long as I have my kitchen well stocked I can always make something simple & satisfying at a moments notice.
Whether I do use a recipe or just create something on my own, I can truly say that
I LOVE everything I eat now  ~ guilt free! Desserts are now an occasional treat that I really enjoy. After a lifetime of dieting this is really very exciting! to me!

I don't make the cacao ones like I have below too often, I make them for a holiday or to share the recipe with family & friends. I prefer something like a date with a few almonds or a hemp shake with fruit when I'm feeling like something sweet. But it's great to have a few special desserts recipes that are simple & delicious because....
they are one of life's Simple Pleasures!!

Here's a few sweet treats I've prepared recently...

Coconut cacao fudge bars
1 1/2 cup pitted dates

Blend all the above ingredients well in food processor
form into 1 large bar
top with set aside shredded coconut & walnuts
refrigerate overnight or put in freezer for a while to firm up

Sharing Smoothies & Happiness

I am back from my hiatus and happy to be here! I apologize for the lack of posts lately... I have been up to my ears in projects and realize that I have to cut back and focus on what's most important.to me. And keeping up my blog on a regular basis is one of those things!. So I will continue to share the little joys I find in my days along with any interesting, inspirational and educational info that I enjoy...

One of the things I've been doing lately that really makes me happy,  is something that has blossomed without any effort on my part. Who would have thought? Here I am trying to find my little niche for sharing  about the healthy happiness I've found and it was staring me right in the face! Isn't life funny? I have no grand plans for this little undertaking but this is something that I am passionate about and brings me great joy!! And that's what truly matters to me....

A little background first....
In the beginning and throughout my musings here I have always talked about my glorious green smoothies.
When I introduced them into my daily routine wonderful things began to happen! My palate began to change slowly but surely and cravings for junk and processed foods simply melted away. They opened the door to a whole new lifestyle of healthy choices, effortless weight loss and renewed healthy. I have wanted nothing more than to share the healing power of green smoothies in hopes that everyone could experience the same magical results that I have found.I truly feel that I have found that magic bullet that everyone is looking for! Perhaps they are not for everyone, but for every single person I know that has started drinking them on a regular basis, the results have been no less exciting! I think this is huge! Yet the one thing I found throughout the past couple years is that most people just don't have the time to make green smoothies for themselves. Oh they do want to drink then and they certainly want the added health benefits, whatever that may be for them. But as often the case in life, time is of the essence. Still it never dawned on me that there was a need there that I could perhaps help fill. Until a friend called and asked me if I would please make them for her on a regular basis. Of course I said I would! I would be more than happy to. And that I did and have been doing for a couple months now. She's thrilled because she feels that drinking them daily is the one truly nurturing thing that she does for herself each day. It's a win win situation for sure! From there it has just blossomed without my saying a word . I am now happily sharing my green smoothies with several people and they are all thrilled! Each one  has a different reason for why they'd like to do this and it's exciting to see all the different results! Whether it is weight loss, feeling more vibrant and energized, reducing stress, lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels it's all wonderful!!
Sharing such a simple little thing like green smoothies and seeing these small miracles brings me more joy than I can say.....

THIS is one of life's Simple Pleasures!

Rebounding ~ Simple! Effective! Fun!

I'm so excited that I've discovered a form of exercise that is really fun and extremely effective in so many important ways!!
Even when my schedule is tight I can always find the time for it and always feel fabulous when I'm finished. I look forward to it daily, do it at home at my convenience and it requires absolutely no special skills! Reach back in your mind to the days of being a carefree child, loving to jump and bounce & feel as free as a bird. I love recapturing that feeling every day! While listening to some high energy music, I bounce my way to fitness on my wonderful mini trampoline called a rebounder!
                                                        Here's my rebounder!
Isn't it the coolest little thing?
Rebounders are small, they can fit into any corner of a room. Many brands fold for even easier storage. The average rebounder is a little less than 3 1/2 feet in diameter, which makes them really convenient! They vary in price but there's no need to spend much to invest on one. I paid about  $80.00 for mine and it was an extremely worthwhile investment!
Research has led some scientists to conclude that jumping on a mini-trampoline is possibly the most effective exercise yet devised by man, especially because of the effect rebounding has on the lymph in the body.
If you're looking for a simple, highly effective exercise that anyone regardless of size, fitness level or physical ability ~ This is THE exercise to jump into!!   :)
42 Ways the Body Responds to Rebounding
By Dr. Morton Walker and Albert E. Carter

The study of the human body is fairly interesting.  The moment it becomes no less than amazing is when we understand what happens as the body is placed under the demands of movement and resistance we call exercise.
Rebounding is an effective exercise that reduces your body fat; firms your arms, legs, thighs, abdomen, and hips; increases your agility; strengthens your muscles overall; provides an aerobic effect for your cardiopulmonary systems; rejuvenates your body when it's tired, and generally puts you in a state of mental and physical wellness.
In fact, there are at least 41 fascinating ways the body responds to regular rebounding, detailed below:
1.       Rebounding provides an increased G-force (gravitational load), which strengthens the musculoskeletal systems.
2.       Rebounding protects the joints from the chronic fatigue and impact delivered by exercising on hard surfaces.
3.       Rebounding helps manage body composition and improves muscle-to-fat ratio.Rebounding diminishes body fat , improves muscle tone, improves the efficiency with which the body burns carbohydrate, and lowers pulse rate and blood pressure.
4.       Rebounding aids lymphatic circulation by stimulating the millions of one-way valves in the lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system acts as your body's internal vacuum cleaner.
5.       Rebounding circulates more oxygen to the tissues- and where the is oxygen there cannot be disease.
6.       Rebounding establishes a better equilibrium between the oxygen required by the tissues and the oxygen made available.
7.       Rebounding increases capacity for respiration.
8.       Rebounding tends to reduce the height to which the arterial pressures rise during exertion.
9.       Rebounding lessens the time during which blood pressure remains abnormal after severe activity.
10.   Rebounding assists in the rehabilitation of a heart problem.
11.   Rebounding increases the functional activity of the red bone marrow in the production of red blood cells.
12.   Rebounding improves resting metabolic rate so that more calories are burned for hours after exercise.
13.   Rebounding helps fluid move easily within the body, thus helping muscle performance and lightening the load required of the heart.
14.   Rebounding decreases the volume of blood pooling in the veins of the cardiovascular system preventing chronic edema.
15.   Rebounding improves circulation. It encourages collateral circulation (the formation of new branch blood vessels that distribute blood to the heart) by increasing the capillary count in the muscles and decreasing the distance between the capillaries and the target cells.
16.   Rebounding strengthens the heart and other muscles in the body so that they work more efficiently.
17.   Rebounding allows the resting heart to beat less often. Each beat becomes more powerful and sends out a greater surge of blood around the body to nourish its 60 trillion cells.
18.   Rebounding lowers circulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
19.   Rebounding lowers low-density lipoprotein (bad) in the blood and increases high-density lipoprotein (good) holding off the incidence of coronary artery disease.
20.   Rebounding promotes tissue repair.
21.   Rebounding for longer than 20 minutes at a moderate intensity increases the mitochondria count within the muscle cells, essential for endurance.
22.   Rebounding adds to the alkaline reserve of the body, which may be of significance in an emergency requiring prolonged effort.
23.   Rebounding improves coordination between the propreoceptors in the joints, the transmission of nerve impulses to and from the brain, transmission of nerve impulses and responsiveness of the muscle fibers.
24.   Rebounding improves the brain’s responsiveness to the vestibular apparatus within the inner ear, thus improving balance.
25.   Rebounding offers relief from neck and back pains, headaches, and other pain caused by lack of exercise.
26.   Rebounding enhances digestion and elimination processes.
27.   Rebounding allows for deeper and easier relaxation and sleep.
28.   Rebounding results in better mental performance, with keener learning processes.
29.   Rebounding curtails fatigue and menstrual discomfort for women.
30.   Rebounding minimizes the number of colds, allergies, digestive disturbances, and abdominal problems.
31.   Rebounding tends to slow down atrophy in the aging process: Rebounding can actually reverse, prevent or diminish the hardening of the arteries. By conquering this ultimate pathology, you will keep your mind alert, skin smooth, skeleton flexible, libido intact, kidneys functioning, blood circulating, liver detoxifying, enzyme systems alive, hold memory intact, and avoid all systems of the aging process.
32.   Rebounding is an effective modality by which the user gains a sense of control and an improved self image.
33. Rebounding supplies a reserve of bodily strength and physical efficiency.
34. Rebounding helps the body attain peak cell function through chemical function.
35. Rebounding expands the capacity for fuel storage, resulting in extra endurance.
36. Rebounding stimulates metabolism. Rebounding provides for a better absorption.
37. Rebounding promotes body growth. Growth of the long bones is especially stimulated by rebounding due to the stimulating effect of the pituitary gland, which produces growth hormone.
38.Rebounding increases the capacity for respiration. Breathing is controlled by changes in the volume of the chest cavity brought about mainly by muscular movements of the diaphragm, Repeated rebounding exercise accomplishes more muscle movements of the diaphragm with the consequent chest expansion.
39. Rebounding boosts red blood cells. Rebounding increases the functional activity of the red bone marrow in the production of red blood cells. The red blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients to the tissues of the body and also help remove carbon dioxide from them.
40. Rebounding helps fight fatigue. Rebounding tones the glandular system to increase the output of the thyroid gland, the pituitary gland and the adrenals-which all help to restore energy.
41. Rebounding exercises every part of your body.
42.   Rebounding is enjoyable!
People who rebound find they are able to work longer, sleep better, and feel less tense and nervous. The effect is not just psychological, because the action of bouncing up and down against gravity, without trauma to the musculoskeletal system, is one of the most beneficial aerobic exercises ever developed.
